Husky Cool In India

4 November 2008

Husky ‘India’, trading as East India Exim PVT Limited, will be based in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), the state capital of West Bengal. The new company will supply an extensive range to shops, supermarkets, hotels and restaurants.

Despite the threat of world recession, India’s boom economy shows little sign of slow down. Sunder Malkani, head of the joint venture, said advance orders were already in place.  He said Husky was well-placed to capitalise on the demand for its robust refrigeration, built to withstand the rigours of food and drink storage in some of the world’s hottest countries.

“With Husky support, we will quickly establish ourselves as the principle supplier of high quality refrigeration to our target markets,” he said.

"Bottle chillers in India for example, are in huge demand by the major drinks companies which supply the big brands like Coca Cola, Pepsi and Kingfisher beer.  Husky units are already used by almost all of the world’s leading FMCG brands, so we will capitalise on this market knowledge and expertise.

“Husky India has already appointed its first distributor, Nova Industries based in Mumbai, the country’s most populated city, and a country-wide customer service and repair network will shortly be up and running.”

With new supermarkets springing up across India and neighbouring countries such as Pakistan and Nepal, replacing many of the traditional suburban grocery and general stores, Husky chief executive Geoff Thomasson sees a huge sales opportunity.

We are an established international leader in refrigeration sales and service,” he said. “With operations in Europe, the US, South Africa and Australia, plus an official distributor network in many other countries, India presents a natural step forward for Husky’s continued global expansion.”
